Innovation in journalism training in a European perspective is an indicator of innovation in the media industry and in the professional field of journalism within Europe. It is within the training dimension that hidden elements of progress in the development of European perspectives in the media and information industry become visible. The perception of a need for innovation in journalism training in order to foster such elements prompted a number of journalism trainers from leading training institutions in Europe to analyse and debate projects and concepts of international interest.
This collection of articles centres on future developments of links between the media industry and training institutions, on concepts for the institutional development of training and on analyses of practical training projects.
The initiation, development, and discussion of innovation in European journalism training is a priority endeavour of the "Erich-Brost-Institut für Journalismus in Europa" which is attached to the Journalism Department of the University of Dortmund. Founded in 1991, it is the first, non-profit organization expressly established to advance the process of networking among European journalism training institutes, to support the exchange of young journalists between editorial offices throughout Europe and to promote the development of practical journalism in a European perspective through project work.Gerd G.
